About Us

The Center for Innovation in Cardiovascular Health (CICH) at Florida International University (FIU) was created to accelerate progress in cardiovascular medicine by building a connected, interdisciplinary community focused on practical impact. Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality, yet many patients still face the same lingering issues: late detection, limited options to track disease progression, variable responses to therapy, and clinical decision-making that too often relies on one-size-fits-all assumptions. CICH exists to help close these gaps by advancing more personalized, data-informed strategies that can be deployed in real clinical settings.

CICH is made possible by a generous funding agreement from the Florida Heart Research Foundation. This support enables the Center to do something essential for long-term impact: invest in people and partnerships while also advancing the science. We are intentionally structured to promote interdisciplinary interactions—creating a shared environment where basic scientists, biomedical engineers, computational and data scientists, clinicians, and community partners can work side-by-side to define problems, develop solutions, and test them in ways that are clinically meaningful.

A defining feature of CICH is its commitment to building an ecosystem of talented researchers across career stages. We support a pipeline from high school trainees and undergraduates through graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and senior faculty, with dedicated funding opportunities that include Ph.D. and nursing students. By training and connecting future innovators alongside experienced investigators, we aim to expand the local and national workforce capable of translating cardiovascular discovery into deployable tools and practices.

Our goal is to bridge fundamental research to technological and methodological innovation—and to ensure those innovations can ultimately influence clinical practice. That includes developing and validating new measurement approaches, analytic methods, and scalable technologies that improve how cardiovascular disease is detected, monitored, stratified, and treated. Through collaborative projects, shared resources, and cross-disciplinary training, CICH aims to shorten the path from discovery to real-world impact, helping clinicians and health systems move toward more individualized care that better reflects the needs of each patient.
